Norwood Park Animal Hospital and Veterinary Surgical Service provides state-of-the-art medical diagnostics, hospital veterinary care and comprehensive medical/surgical treatments. Our goal is to provide your pet with compassionate, responsible and thorough veterinary care. Board certified surgical and diagnostic specialist are available to implement care and manage your pets medical and surgical needs.

Our comprehensive services include diagnostic imaging, preventative medicine, internal medicine, oncology, acupuncture, soft tissue surgery, neurological surgery, and orthopedic surgery.

  • Dr. Douglas Hammer DVM, Dip., A.C.V.S.

    Dr. Douglas Hammer DVM, Dip., A.C.V.S.

    graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1967. Since graduation, he has served as an employee, partner and Chief of Staff at Norwood Park Animal Hospital. During his tenure, he has published extensively. In 1982, Dr. Hammer was accepted into the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, as a soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeon. He has developed techniques for the repair of cleft palate, hair-lip and multiple orthopedic procedures.

    Dr. Hammer is married, has a thirty-four-year-old son, three dogs, and four cats. When not practicing veterinary surgery and medicine he enjoys photography, fishing, skiing, shooting sports and builds accurate models of 19th century sailing vessels.
  • Dr. Katherine Wawronowicz-Anderson, DVM, C.V.A.

    Dr. Katherine Wawronowicz-Anderson, DVM, C.V.A.

    attained her DVM from St. George’s University in 2005. She has been working as a general practitioner at Norwood Park Animal Hospital since graduation. Dr. Wawronowicz-Anderson has a special interest in Chinese Medicine and obtained her acupuncture certification from the Chi Institute in 2009. She is also studying how to incorporate food and herbal medicine into daily practice.

    On her days off, Dr. Wawronowicz-Anderson enjoys traveling and going to the dog park with her two dogs, Tonka and Cooper.

  • Melissa Hammer

    Melissa Hammer

    Melissa has been the office manager for the last ten years. In addition to accounting she is a veterinary technician and responsible for the medical management of all animals in the hospital. She dispenses medications for patients in and out of the hospital and manages the front office staff.

    Outside of the hospital she is frequently caring for orphaned animals in addition to maintaining a busy house with three dogs and four cats.
  • Alex Hammer

    Alex Hammer

    Alex is responsible for the care and maintenance of all mechanical and technical tools in the hospital. He is an operative assistant and provides technical care for medical and surgical patients in and out of the hospital. He is recently married and lives in Weschester with his wife Hiliary, Sam the dog and three cats.

    When he is not working he enjoys the Cubs, and growing hops and making beer.
  • Maureen Boudreau

    Maureen Boudreau

    Maureen is a veterinary technician and a vital assistant in the surgical theater. She has worked for us for the past seven years, and provides patient care, administers radiology, and is responsible for the management and care of the receiving rooms.

    Maureen lives in Chicago, and is expecting her first child in August of 2010.

    Joan Santangelo

    Joan is very new, but has been associated with the hospital for twenty to thirty years as an employee, client, and friend. Joan provides the gentle touch necessary for the management of the very ill patients we care for.

    Joan is pictured here with her dog Winston, who along with her home in Michigan are an important part of this caring attitude.

    Gwen Hayden

    Gwen has worked for six years on a part-time basis, while caring for a husband and young son. Her responsibilities as veterinary assistant are necessary for the management of the office on the weekend.
  • Tomasz Krystek

    Tomasz Krystek

    Tomasz, the newest member of our team, is originally from Poland and was trained as a veterinarian at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. He is currently studying to become a licensed veterinarian in the USA. In the mean time, he's enjoying his life in the States with hid new wife Kasia and dogs Kingus and Hugo.

    Leslie Daly

    Leslie has provided a smile, common sense and a welcoming face at our front desk for the last seventeen years. She is responsible for the day-to-day management of the front office and coordinates the needs of the front office with the needs of the hospital.

    She lives in Chicago with her hard working husband and two children.
  • Stephanie Rizzo and Kerry Grassini

    Stephanie Rizzo and Kerry Grassini

    Kerry is another smiling face at the front desk. For the last six years, she has provided a calmness and sense of right and wrong that makes this area of the hospital a pleasant part of the team approach. Poor disadvantaged animals are her specialty.

    Her husband Frank works for the city of Chicago, where they live with their children, cats and dogs.

    Stephanie along with Kerry and Leslie is part of a team that welcomes new and old clients as if it were the first time. During her tenure, she has become a skilled receptionist and valued member of our team. There are no children or husband yet, but her skills as a baker are legendary.
